We started yesterday with death and destruction. Thanksgiving is Dusty's favorite day of the year for many reasons but mostly football and HUNTING. He left at 3:50 in the morning and hiked over a mile into the woods in the pitch black to perch himself in a tree and wait for a big "hog daddy" to come his way. The short version is that he ended up killing his biggest buck ever. The poor buck was distracted by a woman and got himself way to close to Dusty to have any chance of survival. The rest is history and ground meat. GAG! Dusty hauled it by hand a mile back out of the woods like any real man would and we had a congratulations possy here at the house before he even got home to show off his deer (Cassels, dad, Charlie). My favorite part of this was his heroic entrance into the neighborhood with the trunk open and a dead deer sticking out. A teenage boy down the street yells, "golly, did you see that buck" and promptly sent his girlfriend over on her bike to take a picture on her phone. It was a true heroes welcome. The whole thing makes me ill but considering that I took photos using the camera from Dusty's bloody hands, while pregnant means I was a pretty good sport about the whole thing. He was elated and I'll just end by saying there was a lot of fist pumping through the day. He tried to say it was b/c he has a beautiful wife, daughter, and son on the way BUT we all know it was his pride in the kill. The rest of the day was funny and memorable for sure. Our restaurant was so busy they wouldn't take our names so we ended up eating at Cracker Barrel. We had purchased tickets to ICE @ Opryland (a winter wonderland made of ice) and as soon as we got there they closed for inclement weather. We chuckled at our misfortunes and luckily our last plans came through. We drove through Jellystone Park and watched a beautiful Christmas light show to music. It ended up being a nice day spent together and we hope your day was great too!

Okay, this whole post makes me laugh and we are happy that Dusty was so thrilled. Dad thinks the whole thing is pretty cool, I just cannot stop staring at the deer and feeling sorry for it, sorry, I've watched Bambin one too many times. I still am always amazed that a gentle, kind, loving man can actually be giddy over killing something and getting his hands dirty but that is an entirely new post. Dusty, gulp, we are proud of you and happy that you are happy. How's that, sincere? Hopefully, because it is true.
Okay, meant to sign my name to the above comment, yes, it is from me, Mama Steph.

Jellystone? Opryland? Dead deer in the front yard? Where do you live? Hahaha. j/k. Nice work Dusty. I especially like the picture of you propping the deer's head up like you are reminding it to look at the camera. PS this is Lauren not Dave.
